DESCRIPTION

AquaMatt is a water-based, fibre re-enforced acrylic copolymer coating used for waterproofing masonry decks (flat roofs), parapet walls and any surface where water ponds.

FEATURES

AquaMatt creates a high quality, fibre re-enforced acrylic waterproofing compound which:

• Reduces the temperature underneath the surface it is applied to by as much as 30%.
• Has been designed to stretch and is water and water-vapour resistant.
• Is recommended for the use of long-term protection. (Maintenance coats applied)
• Can handle ponding.

For best heat reduction, AquaMatt must be over-coated with Paintcor White Elegance or AquaSeal.

SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION

Parapet walls, windowsills and horizontal surfaces where water may lie

1. Wash the surface area to remove all dust, dirt and loose friable material.
2. Allow sufficient time to dry.
3. Apply 1 coat of Paintcor’s AcrySeal acrylic sealer diluted 1:1 with water. Allow to dry.
4. Using a sponge-ripple textured roller or a brush, apply the first coat of AquaMatt, covering the tops of the parapet walls or area you wish to waterproof.
5. AquaMatt must be applied in multiple layers, the coats should not be too thick. Applying AquaMatt too thick will lead to extend drying times.
6. Apply a second coat of AquaMatt. Allow to dry.
7. Apply a third coat of AquaMatt. Allow to dry.

New Flat Decks (where the concrete is already cured)

1. Ensure that the concrete is clean, dry and clear of any loose and friable materials. If the concrete strength is in question, please contact our Technical Support Department on 011 794-2885.
2. Measure the flat deck surface area to determine the amount of product required.
3. Use Paintcor Ushevu to kill off algae and mould if necessary. The surface must be clean and dry before painting commences. (see Ushevu data sheet)
4. Apply one coat of Paintcor’s AcrySeal diluted 1:1 with water to all areas that are to be waterproofed, including parapet walls. Allow time to dry.
5. Apply 1 coat of Paintcor’s AquaSeal Saturator onto the areas which bandage will be applied to (Bandage all 90° joints and expansion joints).
6. Use the top of a brush to create a dabbing action and bed the bandage into the AquaSeal while it is wet. Apply progressive sections of 30-40cm at a time and make sure that the AquaSeal remains wet throughout the process. This will ensure complete adhesion of the membrane to the surface. Allow sufficient time to dry.
7. Using a sponge-ripple roller or a brush, apply the first coat of AquaMatt, covering the deck, bandaged joints and the tops of parapet walls.
8. AquaMatt must be applied in multiple layers, so apply each coat thinly to facilitate quicker drying time between coats.
9. Apply a second coat of AquaMatt.
10. Apply a third coat of AquaMatt, followed by as many subsequent coats as necessary. The rule of thumb is 1 litre per square metre, as this is the only way to ensure effective uniform dry film with a thickness of approximately 0.5mm.
11. Ensure that the AquaMatt system is completely dry, then apply two coats of Paintcor’s Aqua Seal, Elegance or RuvAcryl dependant on colour required and guarantee terms.

Maintenance

1. Fresh coats of AquaSeal should be applied every 3 years.
2. If using Elegance or RuvAcryl, apply new coats every 7 years for maintenance purposes. You will need 1 litre per 8 square meters per coat (2 coats required)
3. White AquaSeal or Elegance is recommended as it resists heat and minimises expansion and contraction. Waterproofing systems can fail due to structural movement, clogged down pipes and so forth. We thus recommend that you inspect the system before and after every wet season.

New uncured concrete flat decks (green)

This system is to be used if the standard 28 day curing time for concrete is not possible.

1. Ensure that the deck is free of loose or friable materials.
2. Apply two coats of Paintcor’s CemenTek to deck and parapet walls. Allow two hours to dry at 25°C between each coat.
3. Sufficient coats of CemenTek must be applied to completely seal the surface, therefore apply more than two coats if necessary. (if unsure please call for assistance)
   NOTE: If the surface is not completely sealed then the applied waterproofing system may blister.
4. Adhere membrane to all 90° joints and expansion joints using Paintcor’s AquaSeal Saturator. Apply one coat of AquaSeal Saturator to the areas which the membrane will be applied to. Use the top of the brush to create a dabbing action and bed the membrane into the still wet AquaSeal. Apply progressive sections of 30-40cm at a time, checking that the AquaSeal is still wet. This will ensure complete adhesion of the membrane.
5. Apply the membrane to all 90° joints between the flat deck and parapet walls, as well as any other joints where movement may occur. (Expansion joints). Allow sufficient time to dry.
6. Using a sponge-ripple roller or a brush, apply the first coat of AquaMatt, covering the deck, bandaged joints and the tops of parapet walls.
7. AquaMatt must be applied in multiple layers, so apply each coat thinly to facilitate quicker drying time between coats.
8. Apply a second coat of AquaMatt. Allow to dry.
9. Apply a third coat of AquaMatt, followed by as many subsequent coats as necessary. The rule of thumb is 1 litre per square metre, as this is the only way to ensure effective uniform dry film with a thickness of approximately 0.5mm.
10. Ensure that the completed AquaMatt system is completely dry and then apply two coats of Paintcor’s Aqua Seal, Elegance or RuvAcryl dependant on colour required and guarantee terms.

Flat Decks, previously finished in acrylic

1. Remove old system where adhesion has been lost.
2. Wash the surface area to remove all dust, dirt and loose friable material.
3. Allow sufficient time to dry.
4. If any concrete or plaster is exposed, seal the necessary area with 1 coat of Paintcor’s AcrySeal acrylic sealer diluted 1:1 with water. Allow time to dry.
5. If cracking is visible, bandage the cracks with Paintcor’s Non-woven Geofabric Membrane and AquaSeal Saturator as for New Decks above. Allow sufficient time to dry.
6. Using a sponge-ripple roller or a brush, apply the first coat of AquaMatt, covering the deck, bandaged joints and the tops of parapet walls.
7. AquaMatt must be applied in multiple layers, so apply each coat thinly to facilitate quicker drying time between coats.
8. Apply a second coat of AquaMatt. Allow to dry.
9. Apply a third coat of AquaMatt, followed by as many subsequent coats as necessary. The rule of thumb is 1 litre per square metre, as this is the only way to ensure effective uniform dry film with a thickness of approximately 0.5mm.
10. Ensure that the completed AquaMatt system is completely dry (no soft areas) and then apply two coats of Paintcor’s Aqua Seal, Elegance or RuvAcryl dependant on colour required and guarantee terms

Flat Decks, previously finished in Bitumen

1. Remove all bitumen back to cement.
2. Prime the surface area with 1 coat of Paintcor’s AcryLatex and cement mixed in a 1:1 ratio by volume.
3. Allow 48 hours to dry.
4. Adhere membrane to all 90° joints between deck and parapets as well as expansion joins and cracks. Apply one liberal coat of Paintcor’s AquaSeal Saturator to the areas which the membrane is being applied to (90° joints and expansion joints).
5. Use the top of a brush to create a dabbing action, embedding the membrane into the AquaSeal.
6. Apply progressive sections of 30-40cm at a time, ensuring that the AquaSeal is still wet. Allow sufficient time to dry.
7. Using a sponge-ripple roller or a brush, apply the first coat of AquaMatt, covering the deck, bandaged joints and the tops of parapet walls.
8. AquaMatt must be applied in multiple layers, so apply each coat thinly to facilitate quicker drying time between coats.
9. Apply a second coat of AquaMatt. Allow to dry.
